A quick thinking, intelligent defenceman who moved the puck often and well, Jim Kennedy was an all-star performer from his school days in Bishop’s Falls to his provincial senior days with the Conception Bay CeeBees and the Corner Brook Royals.

While he wasn’t a big individual, he took full advantage of his skills with a tenacity that demonstrated his high value to any team with which he played. Jim Kennedy knew the game of hockey and he utilized his knowledge to always play at the top of his game.

His individual senior statistics between 1962 and 1970 demonstrate the offensive Jim Kennedy’s skill and ability. While he was an outstanding defensive player with an extremely effective poke-check, he was able to put 111 scoring points into the books from 210 games with the CeeBees and the Royals. He had 24 goals and 87 assists while drawing only 112 minutes in penalties. These statistics clearly emphasize the value of having Jim Kennedy on a team.

Jim Kennedy played a major role in the four Herder Memorial Trophies the CeeBees won while he was a member, and the two Herder Memorial Trophies the Royals won while he was in uniform. In many ways at various levels of hockey, he used his exceptional hockey knowledge to coach a large number of players and teams. His coaching has been extended to medal-winning school teams, female hockey, and the senior league.

A true contributor to his community, Jim Kennedy was a much better than average soccer and softball player.
