Speed, determination and a great ability to score were very evident aspects of the 12-year provincial senior hockey career of Jimmy Dawe. Small in stature, he more than made up for it with an amazing quickness and a tenacity that provided his performances with exceptional rewards.

He was awesome in the other team’s zone and caused opposing goalies many problems. During 356 provincial senior hockey games, he scored 291 goals and added 358 assists for 649 points, good for fourth spot overall in all-time provincial senior hockey scoring.

He had the distinction of scoring the first winning goal for Newfoundland and Labrador in Allan Cup play, against the Moncton Hawks in 1967. Dawe was a member of five provincial senior hockey champions and Herder Memorial Trophy winners. He skated with the Grand Falls Andcos in 1959, the Conception Bay CeeBees in 1965 and 1967, and with the Grand Falls Cataracts in 1971 and 1972.

He also played two seasons with the Labrador City Carol Lakers.
